What is the conclusion to this ? I have a similar problem whenever Non-notes MUAs sends me xml files as attachments. The contents of the file is read and shown inline on screen, but the AttachmentNames array is Empty, and there is "No-Way(tm)" to detach it, other than copy-paste (which is not acceptable, as I have a C++ program reading these attachments).
It doesn't matter wheter the mail was sent via Outlook or Mozilla or Outlook Express or Opera or mutt its all the same.
